The history behind Black Bay

The history of Black Bay begins with Mikael Westberg, Lars Westberg and Jonas Jönsson in the fall of 2002. Mikael had a band called Alkemi, and Lars would sometimes play with them just for fun. When Jonas started to look for members for his band, a friend suggested Jonas to give Lars a call to see if he was interested in his band idea. Lars liked the idea and a week later they started to rehearse.

A few months later, two members from Alkemi decided to quit the band. Mikael and the singer Robin Zetterberg now needed a drummer and a bass player. Lars suggested that Jonas can play drums and that he could play bass. After a little while they all decided to start a new band together. They named the band The Paralyses

After 3 months, Robin wanted to change the name to Transylvania because he thought it reflected the music in a better way (at this time they were playing horror punk like The Misfits).

In the summer of 2003, Transylvania had their first and only gig at Dyketrocken in Njurunda. About a month after that gig, Lars, Mikael and Jonas decided that they wanted to play more advanced and heavier music. Robin left the band in the fall of 2003 and they quickly found a new singer in William Hultquist. The name Transylvania was changed to Einhell and the four started to rehearse. Einhell had their first gig at Nivrenaskolans Christmas Holiday-Show in the winter of 2003.

2004/2005

• Kristoffer Edlund joins the band on bass and Lars starts to play guitar.
• Changed their name to Black Bay during the summer. The name Black Bay is english for Svartvik (the place Lars and Mikael grew up).
• Competes in Musik Direkt (2005) for the first time. Don't make it to the next round.
• William Leaves the band in the fall of 2005.

2006

• Oscar Collin joins the band on vocals.
• Have their only gig with Oscar on Musik Direkt. They don't make it to the next round this time either.
• Oscar quits after only 1½ month in the band. Lars starts to sing.
• Performs at the legendary rockclub Pipeline in Sundsvall for the first time. This is also the first gig with Lars on vocals.
• Records the first demo in May, at the band In Battle's studio. This demo were never released 'cause the band weren't satisfied with the production.
• Recorded the same songs as last time and added two more. This demo was recorded in Blackfire Studios in August. The demo got the name "The Beginning". The band were really disappointed with the production of this demo to but agreed to release it anyway.

2007

• Competes in Musik Direkt for the last time and advance to the next step of the competition for the first time, but they don't advance to the national stage.
• Records a new demo called "Final Sacrifice" in Studio Domsaga. The band is really satisfied with the production this time around and they start to sell the demo at gigs. This is also the point when the band is starting to find their own style.
• Get the chance to be opening act for the band Persuader at Club Deströyer in Sundsvall.
• The summer was perfected with a spot on that years edition of Sundsvalls Gatufest. With one of the biggest audiences on the Stationscenen (the demo-stage), the band did a great gig which also got great reviews in the newspapers.
• Records the "Obsessed" demo in the fall. Once again at Studio Domsaga. This demo sounds even better and the band choose to start sending it to labels, venues and magazines.

2008

• Is choosen as a guest act in Musik Direkt on two occasion.
• Decides to don't play any gigs during the summer and focusing on songwriting for the new demo.
• The demo "2008" is recorded at Studio Domsaga and Black Bay Studios.

2009

• Black Bay recived thir first review on the demo "2008". The review was made by RockUnited.com
• A new website is online! The design is the same as the cover of "2008".
• The bands "Gig searching quest" continues...
